Charles William Goddard, affectionately know throughout the local football world as 'Charlie' was a man who gave so much of his life to the game, both as a player and an administrator.
He played in goal for Templecombe Rovers Football Club for many years and served on the club committee for a very long period, he was also a Club Life Member. He served as a member of the council on the Somerset County Football Association of which he was also a Vice President.
His administratrative ability was outstanding and he had a most comprehensive knowledge of football law and for that reason was a valued member of the Rules Revisior Comittees of both leagues, apart from other sub committees of those leagues his advice was eagerly sought by all connected with local football.
Charlie was an all round sportsman, included in his other activities were Cricket, Tennis, Darts and Skittles.
He was a man who earned the respect and admiration of all who knew him, he had a very friendly disposition, was extremely popular, and always ready to give assistance to those who turned to him for help.
Charlie's passing has left a vacuum in local football which will be difficult to fill. The Cup which is being played for today has been provided jointly by the Blackmore Vale League, The Yeovil & District League and Templecombe Rovers Football Club as a tribute to and to perpetuate his memory, although we who knew him need no trophy by which to remember him as he was a man we shall never forget.
S.F.Matthews, President Blackmore Vale Football League
